Jennifer Stokes -- Resource Teacher

  Resource Teacher

EDUCATION: I graduated from Francis Marion University inMay 2004 with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. I went back toFMU shortly thereafter to study Education. In December of 2007, I graduatedwith a Master's degree in Learning Disabilities.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE: My teaching career began in 2004 when I taught all subjects in 4th grade at Christian Assembly School in Florence while I went to FMU. Starting in January 2008,I worked at Darlington Middle School for 3-1/2 years as an Academic Coach providing pullout resource and inclusion services for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. In 2011, I moved to Rosenwald to serve as their first full-time resource teacher. The 2017-2018 school year will be my 7th year at Rosenwald.

EDUCATIONAL PRACTICES: ALL children have the ability to learn, improve, and succeed in their own way. In my classroom, we strive for progress and learn that it's okay to make mistakes along the way. When you walk into my classroom, you will probably see students standing at the podium, sitting or lying on the floor, standing by the computer, sitting on a yoga ball or even using bicycle peddles under their desk as they work. I incorporate technology and other fun ways to practice skills as well as "old school" methods of learning, such as making and studying their own math facts cards using construction paper.

Unlike other schools in DCSD, I get the privilege of seeing my students grow and mature as they progress from the primary grades to elementary then through middle school. I love my students as if they were my own children.

INTERESTS: GO GAMECOCKS!!! Besides working with your wonderful children, I enjoy playing tennis and learning about science and technology. I love to play drums! I play the cajon (cuh-hone), a box drum, at church on Sunday mornings.
